SALARY:                  Negotiable + OTE Bonus (*Placement on salary scale will depend on level of experience)

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced R&D Consultant to join our specialist Research and Development Team.

Our R&D team are responsible for assisting with a range of innovation incentives for clients of the Firm. Our client base ranges from high technology start-ups through to construction & engineering firms to large multinational businesses.

The team prepares many R&D tax relief claims for SME businesses and team members are responsible for identifying other opportunities to widen and manage our relationship with the client. This mix of projects allows the team to have a varied client portfolio and to get hands-on experience of preparing submissions, which allows everyone to develop a breadth of experience.

  • Identification of qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through participation in technical discussions with clients.
  • Technical assessment of projects in line with HMRC R&D tax relief guidelines and preparation of supporting technical documentation.
  • Supporting claims in the event of HMRC R&D enquiries.
  • Developing own knowledge and skills in R&D tax relief and other related issues, keeping technical knowledge fully up to date and continuing to improve.
  • Writing compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to support R&D claims.
  • Interaction with clients' senior technical and engineering staff in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and review in the light of R&D Guidelines.
  • Creating project files & maintaining information via a CRM system.
  • Playing a key role in accelerating the growth of the business by identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Interest in project and company finances and the application of tax treatment.
  • Providing weekly/monthly reports to management.
  • Preparing and completing R&D tax claims, liaising with the clients to submit amended tax computations and communications with HM Revenue & Customs to ensure efficient processing of the R&D claims.

 *This role is not limited by qualification and is open to all disciplines

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) with demonstrable previous experience in a similar role.
  • You interact readily with other technical professionals, have outstanding interpersonal skills and excel in eloquence and concise summary of information.
  • Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy is essential.
  • Flexible approach to working hours should client meetings be scheduled out of hours and a willingness to meet exacting service delivery standards.
  • Project management skills and client relationship-building abilities.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Demonstrable technical knowledge of R&D tax relief, with experience in a specialist R&D firm or other accountancy practice.
  • Experience in dealing with technological challenges faced by industry professionals, such as engineering design, the development or improvement of manufacturing processes, development of new products and improvement to existing products.
