We are delighted to announce the appointment of Shane Martin as Head of R&D and Capital Allowances at CavanaghKelly.
Shane is a Chartered Tax Advisor with 20 years’ experience working with and advising Northern Ireland businesses.
Shane led the Regional Mid-Tier Tax Practice at PwC and has extensive experience in maximising R&D claims. He currently sits on the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) Northern Ireland Branch Committee. Shane has been involved in some of the largest claims that have ever been submitted to HMRC, which has resulted in changes being made to HMRC legislation.
Speaking on the appointment Managing Partner, Des Kelly, said “Shane’s appointment really strengthens the full service offering we provide to our clients. With many businesses facing uncertainty due to the Covid-19 crisis, now more than ever cashflow is under pressure. Many businesses may not even know they are eligible for this government backed support, so the wealth of experience Shane is bringing to the team really could not have come at a better time.”
R&D claims rose by 17% in 2017/18 with the support claimed increasing to £5.1bn and the amount claimed for the 2018/19 year has further increased to £5.3bn with claims for this period still being submitted.
Having worked with clients in sectors such as Manufacturing, Engineering, Construction, Electronics, Software and Healthcare to name a few, Shane and the R&D team will be able to understand how the activities of your business are relevant in the context of R&D. This will ensure that any claim is maximised whilst being fully supported by a thorough and in depth R&D report.
