Enniskillen BID Task Team Launched

A Task Team has been formed to promote the Enniskillen BID initiative, which if successful, will provide all businesses within the defined area an opportunity to work collaboratively and take control of some aspects of their trading and business environments.

The story so far...

Business Improvement Districts (or BID's for short), have been active in towns and cities across the UK since 2004.

Northern Ireland currently has 2 BID's and businesses in these areas have reported immediate benefits:

  • Ballymena: £1.5 million investment over 5 years
  • Belfast: £5.5 million investment over 5 years

What is a BID?

A BID is an initiative where businesses come together to decide what improvements are needed in their area, above and beyond those governed by statutory provision.

Who is involved?

Chairperson: Anna Devlin: CavanaghKelly, Enniskillen.

Members:

Pat Blake: Blakes of the Hollow
Nicky Cassidy: Westville Hotel
Tanya Cathcart: Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism
Tom Harpur: Enniskillen Business Partnership
Jim Masterson: Erneside Shopping Centre
Terry McCartney: Belmore Court & Motel
Anne Mooney: North West News Group
Jonathan Poots: Boots Ltd
Jonathan Styles: Mercers

What happens next?

Businesses must vote either Yes or No in terms of whether they are in favour of the initiative. If a Yes vote is achieved, it will affect all businesses within the defined BID area in the form of a levy which is payable (and legally enforceable). The levy is typically 1% or 2% of the rateable value of the business. The funds go into a pot of money which will be spent specifically within the BID area over a 5 year period.

It is vital that local businesses get involved. The Enniskillen BID area will not be finalised until the Business Plan is completed. An open meeting is being held to allow businesses to have their say.

DATE: Wednesday 18 November
TIME: 12.30pm
VENUE: Intec Centre, East Bridge Street, Enniskillen
